(2) Prayer is the Best Form of Time Management

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” ~ Psm 90:12

~ I am trying to process time in the Bible, and the thought once again is that: Prayer is the best form of time management that there is. Its better than the calendar, the clock, the phone, some checklist app, some e-alert, an alarm going off, etc.

Consider:

You get up in the morning and the day looks like its going to be a roaring, crazy one.

Too much to do. Too little time.

Your first impulse is to just run. Where is the time for prayer? Right?

Regardless, you take a chance and you pray.

You pray and put the day into God’s hands. Tell God every single thing. Even trivia. Even minutiae.

So God acts. He moves. He takes stuff outta the way. The traffic jam on I-83 is cleared. The team meeting is shortened. It takes you a 1/2 hour to finish a 2 hour job. Your boss … Etc., this. Etc., that.

God shuffles, adjusts, moves, clears up, speeds things up, slows things down, cancels, extends and so on. You get the point. And … and…

And mirabile dictu, at the end of the day, you find yourself with much time to spare. How did that happen? Wow and Amen!

This is our God. He is amazing. You got to take things out of your hands and put them in His. Then watch Him go and start counting the amens.

  1. Good day. I found this to be a very encouraging post. You show possible ways that God will help us with our time if we prioritize Him in prayer at the beginning of the day. Paul said to redeem the time. I think prayer can definitely help with that- not only by the fact that prayer is redeeming the time but it will help us continue to do so throughout the day as you have shown above. What did Martin Luther say about prayer? Something to the effect of: “I have so much to get done today I need to spend the first 3 hours in prayer.” God bless you and your service to Him in your blog.

    1. Mmmm. . . Yes. Thanks. You know how sometimes people ask, “What’s the good word today?” — well, this is my attempt to provide one. Just putting out my two rusty green cents for anyone who might need them as I know I have needed them at times.

I resonated with the caregiving posts on your site. I’ve had to take on such responsibilities in my own life, in unexpected ways, and found myself wondering, how did this happen.

Ok. Take care, and over and out from Charm City, MD

You know I bet you are blessing to your mom because you are taking care of her, so you are like a caregiver too and I admire you because you are helping your mother out because she has mental health issues.
