(0) Raison d’Être & Raison de Faire

May God give to you the dew of heaven and the richness of the earth—an abundance of grain and new wine. ~ Genesis 27:28

~ Hello, Namaste, Namaskaram! . . . Welcome!

This is a site where I blog short devotionals and longer reflections, meditations and such – the Dew and the Rain. The goal is write things that I hope other will find helpful.

~ Now, I believe there are two components to a devotionals, viz.

transactional component

  and

transformational component.

There is a “to do” aspect and there is a “to be” aspect.

A Transactional To Do:

Ideally, something in the world should change as result of the devo. That is to say, some devotionals will give you something concrete to do in the outside world.

~ For example, you may need to have a chat about a difficult matter with your boss. So, a devo will give you the impetus and encouragement to do precisely that. This is transactional.

A Transformational To Be:

Ideally, something in you should change as result of the devo. Perhaps you read about how the saints will persevere to the end and you did not know that. In this case, you are not given a to do, but your outlook on the world has changed. This is transformational.

Most devotionals are a combo of the above.

Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.
